Sapphire Energy, Inc. Investments ~ Green bio fuel from Algae

I want to invest in this company. How do I do this? It's for an all-important cause. Maybe one day it will work with the toxic algae and bacteria in Lake Atitlan.

Sapphire Energy Builds Investment Syndicate to Fund Commercialization of Green Crude Production

Download Press Release

Total capital raised substantially exceeds $100 million

SAN DIEGO – September 17, 2008 – Sapphire Energy took another step closer to bringing Green Crude Production to commercial scale today by announcing it has raised substantial additional financing from existing and new investors.

Sapphire Energy’s Series B round of investment brings the company’s total funding to substantially more than $100 million, and Sapphire is now financed to scale up its production facilities to full commercial feasibility. Sapphire anticipates relying on existing investors to achieve its initial commercial production capability of 10,000 barrels per day.

Sapphire’s production facilities will be capable of expanding and growing easily and economically because production is modular, transportable, and fueled by sunlight – not constrained by land, crops, or other natural resources. The company aims to produce Green Crude at a commercial scale within three to five years.

“With this investment, Sapphire has the resources to make partnering decisions independent of the need for financing, and the ability to build our first commercial facility with internal funding," said CEO Jason Pyle.

Sapphire Energy uses sunlight, CO2, industrial microorganisms, non-arable land and non-potable water to produce alternatives to common products made from petroleum. Sapphire’s Green Crude is similar to light sweet crude and can be refined into chemically identical fuel products such as gasoline, jet fuel and diesel products entirely compatible with the current energy infrastructure — from pipelines and refineries to cars and airplanes. The company announced the world’s first renewable 91 octane gasoline that conforms to ASTM certification in May 2008.

“We created Sapphire Energy by working backwards and considering what a perfect fuel would look like – carbon neutral, renewable, not dependent on arable land or potable water,” said Pyle. “We are creating an entirely new category of energy – Green Crude Production – and are now at a point where we can focus on implementing our plans without worrying about fundraising.”

Sapphire’s investors include ARCH Venture Partners, Wellcome Trust, Venrock and Cascade Investment, LLC, an investment holding company owned by Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates.

Sapphire recently established a test and research site in New Mexico, and is evaluating locations across the United States.

About Sapphire Energy

Sapphire Energy was founded to address the overwhelming inadequacies of current biofuel approaches. The company has built a revolutionary platform using sunlight, CO2 and microorganisms such as algae to produce renewable, 91 octane gasoline that meets ASTM standards. The final product is not ethanol or biodiesel. Sapphire is led by a team of entrepreneurs and experts in cell biology, plant genomics and algal production, as well as investors with long histories of taking innovative technology to market, including co-founder ARCH Venture Partners, along with the Wellcome Trust, Cascade Investment and Venrock. Sapphire’s scientific supporters include The Scripps Research Institute; University of California, San Diego; the University of Tulsa, and the Department of Energy’s Joint Genome Project. The company is located in San Diego. For more information, visit www.sapphireenergy.com and www.greencrudeproduction.com.

The average life of a Refugee camp is 7 years, with some exceeding beyond 50 years. There is a need for an alternative shelter to the typical tent solution that can transform a temporary living condition into a permanent home.

Pallet House by I-Beam Design, was conceived as a transitional shelter for returning Refugees.

Pallet House Designs by Architects I-Beam
November 16, 2009 Category: House Design

Building pallet house designs

These pallet houses were designed as temporary homes for refugees, that a combined structure for a refugee house would have included a shipping container for all the essential service utility functions, surrounded by the pallet structure. Eco Architecture Pallet House Created by the architecture firm I-Beam.
Information about the Pallet House Design / Refugee Housing comes to 57th Street from I-Beam Design :

The nondescript warehouse on the corner of West 57th street at the entrance to the Henry Hudson Parkway is usually home to the assorted boxes, crates and old furniture you would expect to find in a warehouse. But for the past week it has been home to an entirely different type of inhabitant, a full-scale house built entirely from castaway shipping pallets.

For the past week New York Architect firm I-Beam Design has been building a prototype of their award-winning refugee Pallette House in preparation for its premiere at the Milan Architecture Triennale. The Triennale entitled, A Home For All promotes research into emergency housing in order to collect and compare plans for a different constructive, social and economic model of the home and of communities.

I-Beam’s Palette House is made of wooden shipping palettes. Palettes are versatile, recyclable, sustainable, and easily assembled. Their transportation cost is negligible because they are used to carry shipments of clothing, food, and medical supplies to disaster areas.

Additionally, I-Beam Design is looking for a home for their Pallette house. They are looking to donate the house to any worthy organization looking to exhibit it or use it for humanitarian housing.

The Pallet House Design / Refugee Housing building feature a creative array of built-in furniture (made of shipping pallets, of course) like a dining area, benches and flower boxes. (... see more photos+)

Solar Systems, Cook Stoves And Berries Galore At The Passive Solar House Kit!

It was another gorgeous weekend on the land, in the zero energy off grid prefab house kit

Where to even begin.
All I know is, after years with no shelter, not able to camp on the land in the dead chill of winter or suffocating summer heat, after this seasonal weekend in the prefab, even without systems installed, we were comfortable and able to enjoy this beautiful area of rural Virginia.... thanks to the prefab's passive solar design and energy efficient SIPs. If this is what summer feels like in the prefab, then BRING IT ON. (... more)
